2016 SYAA Schedule of Classes
Paper Maché Bas Relief June 7 – 10
This class will incorporate the 3-D paper maché process & painting techniques. Students will create a "popped out" animal or figure on a painted background that emphasizes depth & contrast. This may include mixed-media components.
“Earthumanimal” Word and Art Play June 14 – 17
This class will teach about the "earthumanimal/related by earth" project, which she created to show how the earth, people, animals, and languages are connected. Guest artists each day will guide students in creating images to illustrate in various artistic mediums, each featuring a different daily "earth word."
ArtisTree Designs June 21 - 24
Grow your imagination through tree art images. Students will learn to design expressive, creative, extra-ordinary trees using drawing & painting techniques. A collaborative group project may be included at the end of this session.
Artists in Motion June 28 – July 1
This series of classes will teach students about famous artists, their styles, and the techniques they used by sampling painting and drawing and looking at famous works of art through time.
Creating Fiber Art July 5 – July 8
Students will learn the basics of fiber art and will create a project using several methods of stitching, tying, and upcycling fabric.
Paper, Paper, Paper Art! July 12 - 15
Students will learn the fine art of making art objects with paper. Students will practice origami, paper art transfers and three dimensional paper domes.
Wood -B- Burnin' for Art! July 19 - 22
Learn basic wood-burning techniques using nature-based subject matter on beautiful woody surfaces. Hint of color & finish may be added. This class is recommended for students 12 & up. Limited wood burners available.
Mandala Mobile Madness! July 26 – 29
Creating fun mobiles with upcycled cd’s, wood, fabric and found art materials to make a large mandela mobile creation.
Pysanky Art and Design August 2 - 5
Students will learn the art of Pysanky painting and create pieces using a lost wax method and step by step instruction for their artpiece and about the history of this artform.
Ceramics Studio August 9 - 12
This class will teach ceramic studio basics such as building, throwing on a wheel and students will learn about using a kiln and glazing a piece of earthenware pottery from beginning to end.
